2014 OTL Summit

Please join us on October 3-4, 2014 for our third annual Arkansas Opportunity to Learn Summit at the First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, Little Rock, AR 72201. The purpose of the OTL Summit is to bring together parents, students, educators, policy makers, philanthropic leaders, and others who are working to build a stronger movement for expanding educational opportunities in Arkansas. Now is the time for all of us to focus on this critical issue, both in our own communities and at the state legislature, to make sure that we are all doing everything we can to build on our progress and continue moving Arkansas schools forward.

We’ll be hosting workshops on proven strategies, including improving teacher and administrators’ preparation, increasing quality Pre-k, expanding afterschool and summer programs, grade level reading, and forming parents, students, and school partnerships. We will also convene a series of discussion groups to determine a plan of action for our 7 Points Priority Agenda, as well as other critical subjects that will provide a greater pathway to an opportunity to learn for all students. Our goal is for participants to interact, learn from each other, and strategize on how we can make progress during the upcoming 2015 Legislative Session.  See the Summit agenda here.

Youth are invited to participate in all activities, and there will be a writing contest open to anyone ages 8-18. Winners will receive $75 and have their essay published in the OTL and Arkansas Public Policy Panel Newsletters. Find out more and submit your essay here.

Registration is free and covers all presentations, workshops, and meals at the Summit. To reserve your spot, please submit your registration by September 12, 2014. Hotel accommodations have been made at the La Quinta Hotel at 617 S. Broadway and the Holiday Inn Presidential at 600 Interstate 30, Little Rock. There are a limited number of room scholarships available, so it’s very important that you register early and before the deadline. For more information, please contact Brittany Foster at brittany@arpanel.org or call (479) 214-0564.

Please join us in working together to ensure that every student in Arkansas has a great opportunity to learn, and help spread the word about this important event!

We look forward to seeing you on October 3-4, 2014!
